Redlands residents are having their say on construction traffic plans for the upcoming Leslie Harrison Dam upgrade, with a lot of valuable feedback received already.

For the past few weeks, bulk water authority Seqwater has been consulting with the community on access routes for trucks during the dam upgrade construction.

The $24 million upgrade of the dam is part of Seqwater’s Dam Improvement Program.

The upgrade will make sure the drinking water storage can continue to operate safely into the future.

Construction is expected to begin in mid-2018 and will take about 12 months to complete, subject to weather.

Seqwater Acting Chief Executive Officer Dan Spiller said the organisation was keen to involve the community in aspects of construction planning.

“During this necessary upgrade, we understand that construction work will impact on local residents so we want to work with them to address those impacts,” Mr Spiller said.

“We expect between 40 and 80 trucks per day travelling to and from the construction site, and using the existing dam and water treatment plant access roads is not an option, so we are investigating other proposed routes.

“Information about the proposed routes has been available on our website since late November, with those interested able to offer their views online.

“This feedback will be considered in developing the construction traffic plans. We’ll continue to provide updates to the community as the project progresses.”

Mr Spiller said the webpage had already been visited by more than 400 people.

In addition, registrations are now open for members of the public to attend a tour of Leslie Harrison Dam and the Capalaba Water Treatment Plant in January.
