Releases continue from Wivenhoe, Somerset and North Pine dams

Wivenhoe gated releases

Seqwater’s Flood Operations Centre mobilised at 12pm on Friday 28 March 2025 due to manage minor flood releases from Wivenhoe, Somerset and North Pine dams.

Rainfall has cleared from the catchments, with inflows to the dams and downstream continuing. The Flood Operations Centre is closely monitoring dam levels, rainfall and inflows.

Gated dams

Wivenhoe Dam – Controlled flood releases from Wivenhoe began at 5:30am on Saturday 29 March and continues overnight.

Twin Bridges, Savages Crossing and Colleges Crossing have been inundated due to releases and river flows downstream of the dam. Fernvale Bridge, Burtons, Bells Crossing (Kholo Bridge), Mt Crosby Weir Bridge and Mt Crosby Vehicle Bridge are not expected to be inundated.

Somerset Dam – Controlled releases from Somerset Dam into Wivenhoe Dam are underway and will continue overnight.

North Pine Dam – Controlled, low volume flood releases from North Pine Dam began at 2:30pm on Friday 28 March. Flood releases are expected to continue overnight. Youngs Crossing Road is no longer inundated and open to the public.

Ungated dams are designed to spill during periods of heavy rain to ensure the protection and safety of the dam. Read more about how gated and ungated dams work here.

Avoid potential hazards downstream of dams such as fast flowing or deep water near waterways and floodplains.
