Applications open for popular water industry Graduate Program

University graduates in South East Queensland are being offered the chance to kick start a career in one of the most important industries in the world.

The region’s bulk water authority, Seqwater has opened up applications for those wishing to take part in its 2022 Graduate Program.

Since the program first began in 2011, more than 30 graduates have taken part, with many going on to pursue exceptional careers as a result of the experience, some within Seqwater.

Seqwater Dam Safety Engineer Surali Pinto was among the latest intake to complete the program and strongly encouraged others to apply.

“Water is one of the most important resources on earth for daily use in many different ways and a very exciting and interesting industry to pursue a career in,” Ms Pinto said.

“Seqwater’s Graduate program consisted of rotations within three different civil engineering teams including, the Policy, Strategy, Research and Innovation team, Asset Networks Planning team and the Dam Safety Operations team.

“In addition to my role as a graduate engineer, I had the opportunity to be trained and practice the role of the Flood Officer where I supported the Flood Engineers to undertake routine operations at the Flood Operations Centre.”

Ms Pinto said as a new graduate coming into the program, she particularly enjoyed the variety of experience and opportunity it provided.

“During the last few years, I’ve been able to represent Seqwater at different events like EKKA, the World Science Festival and am now a career advisor at the Uniq You program,” she said.

“Through the support of my teammates and my supervisors, I was able to gain a plethora of knowledge, professional skills for project delivery and was able to transition into the next rotation with ease.”

Seqwater Learning and Development Advisor Angela Robinson said the graduate program was essential to securing and developing the necessary skills to support the growing region and delivering the next generation of water industry professionals.

“This program affords great opportunities to young adults just coming out of university degrees including the chance to experience our essential water supply assets and be key members on project teams,” she said.

“Meanwhile Seqwater reaps the benefits of building on the skills and knowledge of our employees, growing talent in-house.”

Opportunities are available now for recent graduates in a variety of disciplines including civil engineering, process engineering, science, project management and computer science.

Applicants must have completed an undergraduate degree in 2021, or within the last 12 months, at a recognised Australian university.

Applications close on Monday 1 November.
