This morning Seqwater has provided public communications that our Flood Operations Team are in Stand Up. This means our teams are mobilising for 24-7 roster in preparation for rain into our catchments. Once water flows into dams from rain in our catchments, and the dam level exceeds its full supply level, we declare a flood event. Then we follow our Flood Operations manuals to guide how and when we release water from our gated dams.
This means we take into account things like flows in downstream rivers, like the Lockyer and Bremer, which are below Wivenhoe Dam and in this case, possible storm surges from Tropical Cyclone Alfred.
The dam gates are not currently open. We’ll keep you updated when we do open the gates.
