Beer makers tap into desalinated water to produce unique brews

Beer lovers will have the chance to sample and vote for their favourite brew made with water supplied from the Gold Coast Desalination Plant, with the winner to be served at this year’s Royal Queensland Show (Ekka).

The inaugural Kingdom of Beers festival will showcase more than 100 beers from Queensland’s top craft breweries, including 13 unique beers brewed using desalinated water.

The inaugural Kingdom of Beers festival will showcase more than 100 beers from Queensland’s top craft breweries, including 13 unique beers brewed using desalinated water.

The event, held this Saturday at the Brisbane Showgrounds, gives entrants in the RNA’s Royal Queensland Beer Awards the chance to showcase their brews and medal-winning achievements to consumers.

A ‘People’s Choice Award’ will be awarded to the desalinated beer that gets the most votes from the general public as well as votes from a judging panel.

The winning beer will be served at various venues during the Ekka this August (7-16).

Seqwater collaborated with the festival to supply brewers taking part with up to 3000 litres of desalinated water from the Gold Coast Desalination Plant.

For the second year running, Seqwater has also supported the ‘Champion Beer Utilising Desalinated Water’ award as part of the Royal Queensland Beer Awards, with the winner awarded with a $10,000 education bursary.
