Lake Somerset and Wivenhoe are standout destinations for a fun-filled holiday experience in the region, with more than 450,000 people already visiting the two lakes in 2024.
Lake Somerset has a variety of activities on offer for all ages, from boating, water sports and paddle craft, to fishing and swimming in the designated areas. Visitors can also enjoy picnic facilities, and local camping at private campgrounds.
At Lake Wivenhoe, visitors can boat, sail, use paddle craft equipment, and fish and swim in the designated areas. Private camping, BBQ and picnic facilities, playgrounds and multi-use trails are also popular activities at this time of the year.
Seqwater Interim CEO, Will Harpham, says it’s important to keep the fun alive during the busy holiday period.
“We’re encouraging visitors to Play It Safe at our dams and remember five simple tips; always swim in the designated areas, keep an eye on the kids, wear the right life jacket, look out for hidden hazards such as submerged objects and keep a safe distance and speed when boating,” said Mr Harpham.
“We know that walking trails and paddle craft activities are popular during winter, so we encourage visitors to plan ahead. Wear a life jacket when kayaking or canoeing and be sure to pack water and tell someone where you are going before hitting the trails,” he said.
“While Seqwater will continue patrols of the recreation areas and on water activities over winter, visitors are encouraged to take personal responsibility and check the rules at each site prior to visiting, so as not to spoil the fun!”
