Atkinson Dam is a popular recreation spot in South East Queensland, for locals and tourists alike.

Picnic facilities are available in the Day Use Area. Dogs on leashes are also permitted in the Day Use Area but they must remain on a leash at all times.

The lake is open for paddling, boating, skiing and swimming.
