Seqwater Manager Operational Support and Improvement Mansi O’Keeffe said the Easter period could be a high-risk time for marine incidents due to the number of skiers, watercraft and boats on the water and encouraged everyone to have some extra patience at the boat ramps.
“Whether you’re planning a camping adventure or a day trip at the ski lakes, please be patient, remember conditions can change rapidly so be sure to plan ahead, check your gear in advance, keep track of the weather and make sure you’re well prepared,” Ms O’Keeffe said.
“We want everyone to play it safe this Easter which means being water wise and sticking to the designated activity zones for swimming, boating and skiing, following signage, distance and speed limits, carrying appropriate safety gear and never driving a jet ski or boat if you’re unlicensed or have been drinking alcohol.
“The lakes are popular with families so keep a lookout for children and other vulnerable community members near the water and ensure your own children are always supervised when swimming.
“We do welcome furry friends at selected lakes, including Maroon Dam, Atkinson Dam and Moogerah Dam as long as they are kept out of the water and remain on leashes at all times so please check online first for these designated areas.”
Seqwater’s compliance officers and rangers will be undertaking patrols over this period to ensure site and boating rules and regulations are being followed. Visitors are reminded camping is only permitted in designated campgrounds.
